Are You the Face of Outreach?
Here are some of the many ways we serve our local and wider communities. Call our church office 973-334-6500, or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on any of these activities.
- Saturday Luncheon Socials
We help prepare and serve lunch to those in need in Boonton about every two months at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Donations of food or money, or volunteering to cook or serve are always welcome! Call our church office for the next date we serve.
- Annual coat drive
In conjunction with the Lakeland Hills YMCA, a Coat Drive is held each November. Gently used coats are collected and donated to folks who need them on the Green in Morristown. We also contribute to the Jersey Cares Coat Drive.
- Local food pantries
We collect and deliver non-perishable food and personal care items to the First Reformed Church’s food pantry in Boonton. It is associated with the Community Food Bank in Hillside. We have also donated to The Market Street Mission, the Denville Food Bank and the Interfaith Food Pantry. Food donations are welcome anytime, but we especially encourage people to remember to donate items at church on the First Sunday each month as we celebrate Communion. Leave donations by the Outreach basket in the church kitchen. Let’s remember to help feed those in need!
- Holiday Dinner of Sharing
We host 100+ guests from the Morris County Mental Health Association for a wonderful holiday meal every December. It is a terrific inter-generational, fun, and festive event.
- Neighborhood House
We help give individualized tutoring, mentoring, and homework assistance to children from low income households. This is a great opportunity to help children to achieve personal growth and increased self-esteem by helping to build their distinctive abilities as individuals. Anyone is welcome to join after school during the school week.
- Habitat for Humanity
We bring a team to Habitat sites several times a year. Lunch is provided. Volunteers must be over 16 to participate. Call our church office for our next “build” date.
- Homeless Solutions
Outreach has supported cooking and serving bi-monthly dinners at the Morris County shelter for families in dire need for about 18 years. Several families help out in this Outreach effort and are eager to train new volunteers.
- Our Giving Tree
During Advent, all are invited to take tags from the Giving Tree, which supports local families and children in need of food, clothing, and gifts. This past year our Giving Tree supported families from the Neighborhood House
- Environmental activities
As part of the National United Church of Christ efforts, we participate in various environmental activities. Taking care of our Earth is a very important undertaking for all humanity.
- Financial donations
We regularly make financial donations to local, national, and international causes.
